Social Enterprise Berkshire (SEB) is a Community Interest Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable objects. The company is funded by a mix of earned and grant income. As a social enterprise, all profits will be reinvested back into the business or used for community benefit.

SEB was formally known as RCEA (Reading Community Enterprise Agency) but extended its services throughout the whole county of Berkshire at the end of 2005.

What is a Social Enterprise?

  • A business but with a difference!

  • A business that has community ownership and management

  • A business set up with a specific social purpose

  • A business that re-invests its profits back into the community or social purpose

  • Social (or Community) Enterprises are similar to other businesses, because they trade goods and services and strive to make a surplus (profit). However, profits are reinvested into the community, rather than being for ‘private’ gain. These enterprises also exist to fulfil social aims and to benefit their community.
